Remembrance of The Daleks: Disc 1

Season 25

Serial 1

No. Episodes: 4

Review

The first story of Season 25's celebratory year begins with a classic 80's Who story with the Daleks as this serial's villains. There are some callbacks to the very first Who story, An Unearthly Child with the story in and around at Totter's Lane, Coal Hill school and other locations. There's also a cringe moment where the television in Mike's house starts to introduce a 'new' television show.... Other callbacks also include the book Ace picks up 'The French Revolution'.

Also some of the outside scenes fall apart as you can see buildings that are clearly from the 1980's and not the 1960's.

Interestingly the start of Episode 1 includes a teaser before the opening credits.

The story itself is a fun romp and we finally get to see the Daleks overcoming stairs! This is demonstrated at the end of the first episode with the Dalek hovering up the stairs shouting 'Exterminate' ad nauseam. It also goes up the stairs soooo slowly and does not even fire its weapon at the Doctor. Yawn.

All in all, it's a good outing and a great start to the season!
