Review
The first story of the Black Guardian trilogy starts with Mawdryn Undead. The story also sees the introduction of Turlough and it's a good introduction. There is some bad acting in the form of the Valentine Dyall's Black Guardian who is just moustache twirling all of the time.
The story also sees the reintroduction of Brigadier Leftbridge Stewart played by Nicholas Courtney. Originally the story was intended to be for Ian Chesterton as the teacher which would have suited the story better, but actor William Russell was not available, so the Brig was called up!
Doctor Who stallwart, David Collings also stars as the titular Mawdrn. Collings also appeared in The Robots of Death and Revenge of The Cybermen.
I can't remember watching this the first time round, but now seeing it, I think it's a good story and refreshing as well in its scope.
On the downside, some of the music cues are a bit Bon-Tempi and there's also some fat-shaming going on too in this episode which probably would not be included in the script today.
