Day of The Daleks: Disc 1

Season 9

Serial 1

No. Episodes: 4

Review

The first story in Season 9 kicks of with a great episode one, full of suspense and tension. The Ogrons debut making a good first impression as henchmen. The Daleks, however, feel a bit out of place as they don't really add anything to the story.

Episode two begins with the episode one recap, but strangely the end titles music is also included which seems really strange. And the same thing happens with the start of Episode 3! The pacing of the story as a whole is good and keeps you involved and interested.

The Daleks seem very static and the voices whilst deeper than they have been previously seem strangely flat and unsure. The Daleks also seem to click a bit when talking and moving.  And they also look a bit shabby. Their involvement is also a bit superfluous to the story as a whole and would have been better without them altogether!

The story is badly let down in the end battle when the Daleks attack the house. There are only three very slow moving Daleks attacking so it's quite laughable. Checkout Disk 2 for the Special Edition which enhances the battle. The Special Edition actually is a more engaging watch so is recommended over the Disk 1 version of the story.

Also the conference delegates leave the building very calmly whilst the sound of gun fire is all around them!

The Collection Review

This disk contains the orignal version of the story. The picture and audio are also of an unexpectedly good quality considering the age of the material. Some outside shots look soft but that's really no problem.
