The Claws of Axos

Season 8

Serial 3

No. Episodes: 4

Review

This is a cracking story with a great sci-di concept. The Axons are great looking alians and it looks as if the production was quite expensive. There are a couple of times where you see budget issues, but mostly it's all great. The Master is again in the story being captured by the Axons. Pigbin Josh is shown as a down and out but doesn't really add to the story at all.

However this is a well paced story and we get to see the Tardis finally in action albeit in a limited way. The interaction of the elements of the story are good but you also have to put up with the blatant sexim of the 70's but Jo pushes against it quite successfully.

Story Notes

  • The original title for the story was ‘The Vampire from Space’.
  • The extended Episode 1 version of the story is titled ’The Vampire from Space’.
  • The 2005 restored episodes 2 and 3 can be found in the Special Features section of the disk.
  • When the Axons first invade the Power Station at the end of episode 2, there’s clearly someone just under a blanket playing at being an alien.
  • The Axon control module is very falic but not as much as what you find in The Creature From The Pit.
