Season Review
Season 12 kicks of with the fourth incarnation of the Doctor and probably the most successful one at that. Tom Baker immediately stamps his mark on the character in the first story 'Robot' which feels a little like a left over from Jon Pertwee but is still an impressive debut, if you don't mind the poor special effects! The serial closes with The Doctor, Sarah-Jane and Harry going off in the Tardis and so the whole season gets loosely linked together. The next serial, The Ark In Space is a true classic followed by the impressive The Sontaran Experiment. The fourth serial is again a classic - Genesis of the Daleks which introduces the Dalek creator, Davros. The final serial of Season 12 is a bit of a letdown with the return of the Cybermen in the Revenge of the Cybermen.
The Collection Review
The Collection Box Set Releases: Season 12 is the first boxset to be released. It is also the first Tom Baker season as The Doctor.
The boxset contains 6 disks. There are five serials included and a bonus features disk.
The cover of the boxset has Tom Baker in his classic garb set against the time vortex.
The booklet insert background of the time vortex is printed on the background of the boxset itself. This practice would stop with Season 23, due to production problems.
Inner Booklet Cover Holder: The Tardis in the time vortex.
Booklet Cover: From The Doctor with Sarah-Jane and Harry Sullivan.
Console Room: Standard season 12 console room, probably from Robot.
Blu-ray Disk Narration: Tom Baker (tbc)
The box design is only one of three seasons that uses the front cover as the spine cover. You can see on the spine some villains are in view. All of the other Collection box sets, except for Season 8 and Season 23, use a clean shot of The Doctor on the spine.
Due to demand the first production run of Season 12 sold out quickly. As many people missed out on the release, the BBC reprinted the whole set. You can tell the difference between the two releases as the second issue has ''2nd Edition" on the bottom of the J-Card. There no other differences.
