The Five Doctors (Original)

Season 20

Serial 7

Review

The frist of three disks devoted to The Five Doctors, this disk contains the original 1983 transmitted version, but restored in HD. This story opens with a teaser before the opening tiltes. I think this is a first for Who...

Many former cast members return... Susan for example, who still is saddled with being the damsel in distress. She is a Timelord surely but as usual sprains her ankle instead... Sarah Jane Smith is also badly treated  She is written as just ignorant and stupid and her rescue by the Third Doctor from the slope she slides down is ridiculous!

The Cybermen ambushing the Doctor and the Master is also just aweful First one Cyberman stumbles across the pair chatting, but surely they would see him? And what about Tegan and Susan having a birdseye view of the scene? Then later a whole group of Cybermen kjust appear out of nowhere! Ta da! This segment of the story totally lacks suspense - it's acutally leaden.

The Raston Warrior 'the most perfect killing machine ever made... so it can detect movement but not heat or sound??? Doh!

How can the transmat beam penetrate the inpenetrable forcefield of the Death Zone?

The colors are very flat in this edition
